increasing the magnesium shouldn't make any difference to algae.
Most alga need to be removed manually. You can pull it off by hand or use vegetarian fishes to eat it. Angels, tangs/ surgeonfish & rabbitfish will all graze on various algae.
If you can remove the rock then you can soak it in freshwater for a few minutes, or just blast it off with a hose.

both Trod and I have the 'grass' growing in our tanks, I think it is some sort of macro algae - well I say both have, that should be had, I still have mine and I like it but Trod's emerald crab made short work of hers :good:

Yes as seffie has said my emerald crab munched day and night on mine and it soon went :good:

Have just noticed you are close to me in colchester (I won't hold that against you, I'm a Southend utd fan  ) If I can catch him you are more then welcome to try him out to see if he can help, but I'll warn you, he can be like a mini bulldozer :grr: with your LR.
PM me if you're interested :good: .
