Storing Tanks

Can tanks be stored empty? Just advised someone on the photo section to maybe store a beautiful big tank that they can't afford to run for now, for the future but I then realised that I'm not sure how long they can be unused for. Does the sealant break down after a while without the water pressure on it?

I`ve known people to have tanks in the cellar/garage/atic for years em,pty so i can`t see the problem

Thanks for that BigIan cos I've got a aquaone 620 not in use at the moment and I was thinking of selling it but now I know I can store it i'll keep it for future use.
