Stocking Tanks

hi all quick question am new to tropical fish have just purchased a 4 ft tank and wondering what to stock it with it wont be set up for a while as i am taking my time buying the right equipment and lack of funds at the mo so any info would be greatly appreciated fyi i am looking at only small breeds, maybe a couple upto 3in in length and how many is ok not to overstock the tank once again cheers regards
p.s the actual tank size is length 48"x width 15"x height 18"

Well you will need to cycle the tank (see pinned topics at top of page). But for fish I'd recommend 6-8 black widow tetras and 4 small angelfish then once 2 angelfish form a pair (become boy friend and girldfriend) return the other 2 that didn't pair up.
