Evening all,

I am curious whether anyone has some interesting suggestions for what I can add to my existing stock in the weeks to come. Currently we have one male Betta and 8x Ember tetras. Water is spot on 7.4 and temp is always between 74-8 degrees F.

Cheers Jay

Yep, I know there isn't much scope for anything else but we'd really like some shrimp (one the tank has matured a bit more) and possibly a bottom feeder. We were thinking of some otos but heard they can be quite sensitive. Our lfs said we could do both of those with 8x mountain minnoes due to the filtration system's capacity...I'm not too sure on that myself!

I think you are about stocked for 6 gallons. However, I have read that with shrimp (assuming you selected a type that would not be eaten by the Betta), they typically clean so much gunk out of the tank that their bio-footprint is pretty small. So I would think you could have some shrimp. It's just a compatability issue with the Betta.

Thanks, shrimp were definitely on the list. Been advised to get cherry's...shall do some more research whilst waiting for the tank mature.

I suspect Cherry's are small enough to get eaten by Bettas, but it seems that with every fish type, some people say they are fine, and others find that their Bettas eat shrimp.
