I was curious what I could possibly stock a 34 us gallon aquarium (3 feet long) with. My better half would like African Cichlids. Would this be enough room? The tank is filtrated with a Fluval 405 (for up to 100g).

We are sufferers of Multiple Tank Syndrome, and pretty much all of the others are "my" tanks, so I'd like to be able to set this one up with Africans if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The only thing I can see to attempy to put in the tank are shell dwellers or a small group of Saulosi or Demasoni

Demasoni, no, it's a single fish or large group. Saulosi or any Malawi according to this forum are not for tanks less than 4' though I don't agree with this.

There are many Tang's to choose from, Calvus, shelldwellers, N. brichardi, Juli.s etc.

Then there are Ravine cichlids, Pelvicachromis sp.'s (kribs), blockheads, T. brichardi etc.

There are a few small Lake Victorians eg. Haplochromis sp. "Ruby Green".

Pseudotropheus lanisticola, the shell dweller of Malawi.

thanks for the help so far. she won't be too happy (but maybe we'll get a larger tank out of it ;) !!)

Isn't that about 120litres??

I had African Mbunas in a Juwel 180litre tank for about two years until I split up with my husband and he killed them all!! They were perfectly fine until then- breeding and everything.

I'm not saying I'm an expert or anything but from experience, if my calcualtion is correct I think your wife should be able to have her African Cichlids. If my calculation is wrong I'm sorry but you'll have to get a bigger tank- never deny a woman what she wants!!
