Well, since my tank is now cycled and the cleanup crew are cleaning my LR its time to think about my first fish and corals. For those of you interested, you can read up on my Diary for the full details of what's been going on in my tank. Long story short, tank filled, sand added, LR and BR added, chemistry settled, and cleanup crew added. The tank is a 45 gallon tall with 192w T5 lighting, 2 powerheads, and a heater currently. SG 1.023, pH 8.0, NH3/4+ 0, NO2 0, NO3 0-5, PO4 0, dKh 12, Cu 0, Ca 500 so the chemistry is currently spot-on. The tank's sump is still in the construction phase but will ultimately consist of a 20 gallon capacity with a deep sand bed, macro algae, a skimmer, and a UV sterilizer.

With the tank details out of the way I wanted to discuss stocking options. I want to start with a fish or two, then introdouce a coral or two, etc etc. So here's a list of what I want to add hopefully in near chronological order. Probably at LEAST a month between every new addition as I want to go slow and do this right.

Fish
Pair of Ocellaris Clowns
Six Line Wrasse (perhaps a pair)
Firefish
Cardinal
Coral beauty or flame agnelfish (have to watch their taste for corals, I know)
Neon Psuedochromis
Sand sifting goby
Dragonet (not before the tank is 1 year old)

Corals
Sacrophyton
Mushroom (reccomendations?)
Kenya Tree aka Cauliflower
Zoo polyps
Open brain coral
Bubble coral
Elegance coral
Xenia
Acropora (years down the road if I'm feeling lucky ;))

Anyway, this is quite the list and probably more than my tank can support but I made it big since I figured some of you would nix some options :). Some other things to consider in critiquing my list and making your own reccomendations is that I'd love to keep some shrimp of varying types like some peppermints or coral banded shrimps, that sort of thing and perhaps a bristlestar long after the tank is mature. I'd also like my hermits and snails to remain living so anything that munches on them is a little bit of a no-no. Also, before you go suggesting them, I'd like to stay away from damsel fish cause of their aggressive tendancies, and also would like to stay away from green psuedochromis as they seem pretty boring to me (personal oppinion).

I can and have been reading a lot, but in the end I'd like to trust the readership for good advice because you guys have actually kept these things before and even a carefully researched stocking list can be way off :). So fire away, I cant wait to absorb some knowledge :shifty:

Pair of Ocellaris Clowns - Can't go wrong
Six Line Wrasse - Stick to one as they can be very territorial, can be aggressive to mandarins as they both graze the rockwork
Firefish - Like to jump and go carpet surfing so need consideration
Cardinal - Like to be in a group of about 3 ideally
Coral beauty or Flame Angelfish - I personally would go for the Coral Beauty or perhaps a Potters Angel (certainly only one in the tank)
Neon Psuedochromis - Not a very 'showy' fish, tend to lurk in the rocks a lot and only really vcome out for food
Sand Sifting Goby - Once substrate is mature enough fine, like to be in pairs though
Dragonet (not before the tank is 1 year old) - Will need good amount of live rock, Psychedelic (Spotted) Mandarins tend to be hardier than the True Mandarins although not a s colourful

Sacrophyton -
Mushroom - Any and all, when you feel confident get some Ricordae florida or yuma
Kenya Tree aka Cauliflower - Bit boring as they are mostly brown
Zoo polyps -
Open brain coral -
Bubble coral - Intolerable of Nitrates and very stingy
Elegance coral - Intolerable of Nitrates and very stingy
Xenia - Weed :p
Acropora (years down the road if I'm feeling lucky ;)) - With Halides why not

The research is paying off :). Do you think I can house all that in my tank or am I streatching my limits?

I would go with:

2 x Percs/Ocellaris
1 x Sixline wrasse
1 x Psuedochromis
3 x Pajama Cardinals
1 x Coral Beauty or 1 x Potters Angel or 1 x Elibi Angel
1 x Dragonet (when tank matures)

Wow...I was thinking about doing a stocking thread of my own...but you seem to have been reading my mind!! LOL. Even the tank is similar, mine is 36x18x22 (62 gal)

I will be going with:
2x B+W ocellaris
1x Fridmani Psuedochromis
1xCoral Beauty
1x Spotted mandarian

I wasnt sure where to go from there. My thoughts on your list are as follows -

its been said but ill just reiterate it, the beauty you have to watch to make sure it wont eat your coral...its all based on personality

Cardnals are lurkers, really dont move alot except for dinner time. They pick a favorite spot and chill. I have one currently but I think Im going to return him because i would like something a bit more active...plus I really dont want to over stock.

The neon pseudos are supposed to be the most aggressive of the psuedos based on what I have read...so may want to watch out. I had a fridmani before my tank broke and he was one of my favorites, he would poke in and out of holes you didnt even know were there. psuedos are great fish.

Mushrooms - I had a beautiful deep blue almost purple set before the tank crack. they were by far the most beautiful of my 6 different colonys (yes i love shrooms)

try a hammer coral, they look awsome and your clowns might play in it.

just my .02$

-EDIT-

btw...The only reason that I am considering a mandarin is that I have designed my system to special to house it. the sump will be 20 gallons packed with live rock and the other equip. But I will also be running an over head 20 gallon long pod fuge. That will have a free flow set up to send all those wonderful pods back down to the main tank. I hope to pack it with at least 30-40 lbs of live rock...on top of the 75lbs in the main tank...just food for thought.

JMO on the neon pseudochromis: they are very inteligent, colorfull but shy fish. any fast movements and they go in hiding. mine gets along fine with my true perc and clown goby but add the neon pseudochromis towards the end cuzz mine didnt like the addition of the clown goby much for a few days. btw my neon pseudochromis ate an apista and all the baby feather dusters i had on the LR.....just a warning. they are a great fish though...im very glad i spent the money i did on it.....25 bucks for 2 inch fish.

i had a single apista for a few weeks in my tank. i introduced the neon pseudochromis and the apista along with all the baby feather duster disapeared the next day
