Greetings,

I just have a few questions.

I had a 40 gallon aquarium for a a good year and up until a few months ago kept up with it pretty well. Im still a novice when it comes to this. Recently I was kicked out of my home unexpectantly (whole other ballgame relating to the fact i own two "super vicious" Am. Pit Bull Terriers ....*nods knowingly at her two bullies snoozing on the couch* hahah right)

Anyhow, in all the confusion and distance i had to move the tank crashed not literally but algae covered every object, every gravel ,every fish haha joke. but the whole biological filter crashed is what i meant. Then it sprung a leak. So I now have a brand new 44 gallon tank that i am cycling with 5 rasboras from the previous tank. (im cycling with them because these fish so far have survived some pretty horrendous conditions....going so long withough ANY tank maintenance i figure they will survive through the initial cycling)

Ok, so im trying a new stocking scheme and am unsure if they are compatible species and im unsure if im pushing the stocking limit.

Water:

44 gal tank with an external filter purposed for a fifty five gallon and an airstone wand (im thinking about strappin on a bigger filter

Ph 7.2

plastic plants (i kill the grass in our front yard just by walking past it...dont think i can handle aquarium plants)

One very large center piece (fake)

Several broken pieces of African Root.

typically i like doing two small water changes a week vacuuming the gravel once a week.

Im trying to stock fish of a variety of color( with blues, reds, gold, green) with slighly similar levels of activities, keeping in mind the levels in the tank the fish prefer to be in) Once my tank is cycle..slowly i want to introduce:

-3 or 4 more rasboras to complete shoal
-6 to 8 golden barbs
-6 to 10 dwarf neon rainbow fish
-a pair of honey dwarf gouramis (or sunset or firetail)
-3 to 6 cory cats (im unsure which ones probably the emerald green)
-maybe just maybe some sort of attractive, small, peaceful algea eater such as the ansictrus or brisltenose plec, goldnugget plec, or zebra plec. (im leaning towards the zebra...how attractive this would be on the rocks)

Is this pushing it?
Any suggestions?
Will these fish get along.

the only advice i can give you is try to pick a plec other than a zebra. you probably won't find one for under 75-80 dollars (and that may even be generous) as they are currently redlisted.

for other small, striped plecs, check out http://www.planetcatfish.com :)

i think you are pretty good fish wise. but i don know anything about how big the golden barbs get but if they get really big you might want to leave them out.

Thank you very much for the site, starrynight, im going to check it out now. I had no idea about the price on the zebras i mean THAT MUCH! I heard they are pretty delicate fish too...

i think the barbs reach 8 cm. With this is this pretty much the limit or is it too much for my tank?

Thank you very much for your help guys.
