Hi, I have a new 10 gallon that I will cycle fishlessly and I have a couple questions. I want to add

6 Harlequin Rasbora
1 Honey Gourami
Some Bottom Dwellers (suggestions!!)

I only want really like 2 bottom dwellers, but do any enjoy being in a pair or self? Also, should I not get the honey gourami? Thanks.

Peppered or bronze cories for the bottom, they seem to be pretty popular. Not sure a gourami would like being on its own.

cory's really prefer to be in groups of about 6+

i bought 2 (cos they looked lonely by themselves  ) the other week and they just sat there doing nothing. Got another 4 from another shop this week and they're all zipping around and loads happier now. I wouldn't advise just getting 2 of them at all.

How about 6 harleqins and 6 bronze corys? I was going to get loaches, but my LFS does not have them. Well she doesnt have harlequins either, but I can ask her to order some.

I would personally go for pygmy or panda cories, but that tank will need to be stable and mature for them- think they would make more interesting additions to the tank and more suited to the size though  .

My LFS only has bronze cories. Keep in mind it will be a planted tank with lots of hiding places.

I need to make the suggestion of not getting only one honey gourami. I have several different types and most of them like mates to swim around with. Gourami do get large but i would suggest getting 2 honey gourami.

I think maybe 6 harlequins and 2 honey gouramis. I honestly don't really need bottom dwellers, I just wanted the bottom a bit cleaner. I think I'll go with malaysan trumpet snails.

If you're going to get honey gouramis, a trio is best, 1 male: 2 females, the more females the better. One male should be alright on its own. Sparkling gouramis are another small gourami that are great for a 10g. I had 7 hengeli rasbora with 3 (same ratio as the honeys) sparklers in a 10g and they were fine. An added bonus is that sparklers also stay near the bottom or middle, so you really don't need bottom dwellers. A single specimen also does fine on its own. You could get shrimp, but my sparklers ate mine, so I'm not so sure that would be a great idea with sparklers.

llj :)

Ok, thanks. I'll either get 3 sparkling or honey gouramis and 7 harlequin or hengeli rasbora.
