At the moment in my tank I have:

1 Albino Cory
1 Bronze Cory
2 Peppered Corys
2 X-Ray Tetras
4 Male Guppies
2 Platys

The problem I have is that I have 1 female and 1 male platy, I would like to get another female (as I know you should have more females to males). The female is slightly getting chased, they were fine (for approx the last 2 months) until I changed the bulb for the tank this has seemed to make the female catch his eye :) .

The question I have is would it be ok to add another platy to this tank? (The platys I have are Coral Platys, that’s what my lfs calls them)

My water test are ok Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0...I do have high Nitrates (unfortunately my tap water has high nitrates), although I am trying to overcome this.

I have a 50 Ltr tank (approx 13 US Gallons)

Sorry if I waffled on :D

Any advice appreciated

Not answering your question, but your tetra's would benefit from some friends - they're shoaling fish with no fish to shoal with.

Aside from that if you find the tank doing well adding an extra platy shouldn't upset things.

The corys will be fine together, but instead of having 4male guppys i'd have 3 and i'd also get another female for the male platy you have. Im not so sure about the tetras though- most tetras need to be in groups of at least 6 but that would make your tank a bit crowded...How flexable are you with your tank stocking and is there anything you realy want to keep?

I would stick to just adding the female platy - adding more tetras would get you considerably more over-stocked than you already are (cories get to 3", male guppies to 1", platies to 1.5", your tetras to about 2"). Especialy considering the high nitrAtes, I would reccomend you heavily plant your tank and don't add any more fish than necessary (i.e.: just the platy to reduce stress on the other female).

Took the words right out of my mouth !!!!!!

In that case perhaps trading these two in for something that would be more appropriate as a pair may be a good idea - perhaps a pair of cherry barbs or something.

I have just added quite a few plants to the tank to help with the nitrates (going to be adding more soon). Hopefully my lfs will have new stock of the platys tomorrow so I will go and pick up another female. The platys I have are quite small compared to say a wagtail platy just to give you an idea of their size. I have had the tetras for about 2 years now and they seem happy enough.

DEFINATLY ADD MORE TETRAS AS THEY need friends but maybe some neons or cardinals
