A pair is a good idea normally you will need a female and a male !

I really don't think adam meant to imply you are stupid, he was just joking.

The only fish I can think of for that small of a tank are shell dwellers. Here's a link

Yes, shelldwellers are really your only Old World cichlid option. Definitely look into them!
There are some New World dwarf species you could look into if you're interested in going that route
