well from my knowledge a pleco will produce alot of waste and it will build up in a 18g quikly..so make sure u have a gravel vac n vac that #### bout twice a month

angels need a high tank to support there shape as adults

18g i would get a centerpiece and some small fish to swim around them

dont get a 18g just get the 29-30 gallon

i bought a 15 g overstocked it to death then got the 29

Hi Xebadir!!

Just a word of warning that 6 plattys can very quickly become 20 plattys, though with angels in the tank the population is likely to be kept down.

Angels can grow up to 15cm each, thats ~6 inches a fish, fully grown that will be about 12 inches. 60L is about 15.5 us Gal, so if your following the one inch a gallon rule, your mostly stocked just with those two fish. i know you said you'd get juvies, but they do grow and would need to be rehomed later.

cory cats should be kept in bigger groups then 2, try 4 or 6, they are much happier and play alot more during day light hours in larger groups.

Maybe it was just my bristle, but she really didnt like the cory's and gave them hell, so i had to seperate them. if they grow up together maybe you wouldnt have problems, i dont know. Bristlenoses grow quite big too, and they make a lot of mess.

So as it stands, such a tank would be overstocked. i have a simular sized tank with 4 corys and 10 female platys (ie ive rehomed all the male fry) who all get alone well. you could also try the bristle and plattys but i dont think you can keep angels in such a small tank without having future plans to rehome them.

Well a couple of things id like to note:

I know the platies are buggers for reproducing: one did 4 days after i started the tank as i was cycling. Any fry that do reach adulthood or that i choose to raise in my 30L i give away or take in to my LFS. The reason for an angel or two is to keep the platies in check, and add some variation to the tank. I understand the bristlnose can get quite large and messy, though i have noted that bristlenose size is restricted by tank food production constraints with previous specimens. I may choose to rehome or return him however at this point(and tiny size) im quite happy with his job.

As for angels im wondering about growth for them. To be honest ive never seen one larger than 6cm from dorsal fin to anal fin and they were 5 years old. The idea of having them was to munch on the platy fry that occured.

Perhaps going 4 Cories, 4 Platies, and 2 Angels would work? If their size did become an issue i could always rehome....Arg the constraints of a smallish tank...someday ill have two monsters...but until then ill have to put up with the substandard. *dreams*. The 60L i have and the 30L are basically what i can fit at this point, so well have to see what happens. Any opinions on this new idea would be good.

Edit: forgot to mention that the tank will prolly have a lifespan of 2 years as its current form, at this point im moving out from where i am with all luck.

Female bettas might be an alternative to angels. they are smaller and have so much character, but then you'll have aggression problems. i kept 2 with my plattys at one point, they were happy with the plattys but one day decided to turn on each other and i lost both to infection :S so make sure you do your research before deciding on them.

how about a small breed of gourami? i have no experience with them, but i imagin they'd eat any fry they notice.

That might be a possibilty...what im looking for is a attractive fish that serves the purpose of platy controller, and a gourami might be an option: Tank stats: pH 7.2 Hardness: 11-12 dGH(german) dKH:10

Just wondering if everyone is confused with the species of angelfish im talking: im not talking about Pterophyllum altrum, rather Pterophyllum Scalare the smaller species(up to 3.5 inches). My LFS is great and has a huge range of fish, this being one of them. If anyone could clarify my research on that it would be great.
