Just for feuture (sp) refrence i was wondering if anyone has kept cichlids in a 30 gal. tank successfully. I dont mean dwarf more like the yellow lab or convicts. I dont plan to do this because im some what unexperienced and dont have a tank ready and from what i have read 55 is the min. But im just wondering thanks

I have 5 adult labs, one little baby, and a bristlenose pleco in a 29gal bowfront tank. I've had them for almost a year w/o too many problems. It's possible, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you've got a lot of time to observe behavior to catch high agression before it's too late. Also, it helps to only have one male in the tank, the easy way to tell on labs is when your extremely prolific male has all the girls holding at once  .

It really depends and these two mentioned fish are entirely different animals. Yes a pair of cons can be fine for life in this tank, and a group of Labs will get by, even if it isn't ideal. Whatever you do make sure you consider every species as a seperate question because you simply cannot generalize with cichlids.
