Stocking Plans For My 60L

Hello all!

I've finally come to something like a decision over what to stock in my 60L tank. According to my calculations and some googling, my tank can take approximately 33.something centimetres of fish.

I've decided I would like to stock one male betta, 6 neon tetra and 3 panda cories.

I've done some research and have come up with conflicting facts on numerous issues surrounding my tank.

Firstly, some sites say neons are fine with bettas, while others say no.

Technically, my current stocking plan means I'm ever so slightly overstocked. The best way of reducing this would be to lose a neon or two, but I've read they like to be in groups of at least 6. Since they're small fish with a relatively small bioload, is it better to keep 6 to keep them happy?

I'd also ideally like some shrimp and/or snails. I've read that since they contribute to the filtering and cleaning of the tank, you don't need to include them in capacity calculations. Is this true/wise?

Cories also like larger groups. Maybe swap them for an couple more neons and maybe some shrimp?

Why don't you go for Green Neons instead and then 6 Pandas?

Neons CAN apparently be a bit nippy with Bettas but you might be ok. Neither Neons or Corys should be kept in groups of less than 6 though.

People mean well but IMO some can be a bit OTT and scream OVERSTOCKED a bit too soon. I have a 60L and look in my sig at the fish I have. Yes I am a little overstocked but only a little. My point is, you can afford to have 1 Betta, 6 Neons (or maybe another tetra) and 6 Pandas with no probs. As long as you're up on water changes etc.

your your particuly worried about overstocking you could try looking into one of the pygmy species of cory if you haven't already- but to be honest i think you would be fine with 6 panda, six neons and the betta. (though I'm still new to fish keeping) Not sure about the compatability of neons and bettas but i do know bettas are quite variable- my guy doesn't mind guppies, loves the barbs but isn't too keen on the female platy but likes to hang around with the male one for some odd reason(always sleep next to him). So certainly bettas behavior towards the neons could vary with the individual betta- i don't know about the other way though.

I'm sorry if you knew all this already but i figured it would be worth the thoughts
