I'm thinking:

3 cherry barbs
3 female bettas

for my ten gallon
I already have the cherry barbs and 2 bettas, but it was not until after I bought them that I found out 2 female bettas are not a good number. I couldn't fit anymore than three (i've heard 5 is recommended). The two I have seem pretty calm until they see each other. Then the larger one (and the one i've had the longest) flares at my new girl. I want to add a third to cut down on the bullying.

How does this plan sound?

i still think 3 is a bad number, 2 to gang up and rip to shreds the 1.
if i were you i'd use this as an excuse to get a second larger tank for a community with the barbs
and get 3 more girls to go with your two in the 10 gallon (just make sure it's all completely rearranged to break up any territories the two original girls may have formed)

4 might be ok together along with the 3 barbs, catxx correct me if im wrong...
just keep up with water changes! (biweekly would b fine)
