Stocking New Tank

I got a 31L / 8 gallon tank, and now i am wondering how much to stock it up.
I bought a heater and filter as well..

So how many fish should i put in it? & which ones?
Suggestions?

What are the dimensions of the tank, is your local water hard or soft? What PPM of ammonia are you cycling to?

Do you know of anyone who has a mature, fully cycled filter and tank? There are the basics to fishkeeping and water chemistry that need to be learnt and understood BEFORE stocking can be questioned.
