Hi all,

I'm due to pick up a new tank tonight, i have a filter which has been running in my existing tank for 6 weeks along side the original filter - if that makes sense

I plan to put one of the filters into the new tank to save cycling it, how would i go about stocking it, would i treat it like a new tank and just add a few fish per week or give it a good stock to keep the bacteria alive and just top up on a weekly basis, or try and match the same stocking level as i already have in my existing tank?

Many thanks in advance.

Mark.

Provided the new filter IS matured... then its a "normal" tank from the start, but 6 weeks is a short time for even a single filter to mature, let alone one ran in parallel (there's only a finite amount of ammonia in any tank, multiple filters will SHARE the bacteria)

So I would set-up the new tank, and feed it some ammonia to check its processing it first, or maybe a few fish... but be aware that the filter may contain NO bacteria at this early stage... so go easy

I think your right there, might do a fish less cycle for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Many thanks,

Mark.

what size tank isit as it will help me and other readers to determine what you could have in there.
also i would go with a fishless cycle and leave it for a month to 2 months then add fish as it will not have built up that much bacteria from being with another 1 in 1 tank.
