Stocking My Tank

picture this....

a freshly cycled 40 gal tank ,ready for fish , i have already decided on 3xf8 puffers , and 6 bumble bee gobys , nerite snails too, [ later ]

but i dont want to add those fish 1st , id like to add other fish too, not too many , just to get the tank *mature* over the next couple of weeks ....

BUT what fish ! ? i just cant find anything due to the fact i am a total noob , someone PLEASE HELP !

Parambassis ranga if your salt level will be below 1.005. An archer fish would be very cool to own but you would need a school and I don't think your tank would be large enough. With the nerites I would get a good mix of species I especially love my horned nerite.

i will spend some time looking at the fish you mention too....as a side note [ before i look around ] do they breed , i dont want breeding fish in my tank...[ nooby question ]

The glassfish do breed but not easily and the nerites will breed in brackish water but I think they are quite difficult to ascertain the right salinity level.

so im looking at a tank with loads of snails in ? i know the f8`s and maybe the bb will scoff snails, but am i likely to have a ton of snails i don't want ?

Well its unlikely but possible and nerites sell for good money I wouldn't complain about having a load. The puffers will actively hunt the baby snails anyway which is why you should only get quite large snails. Red clawed crabs are brackish but not sure on whether they are fish compatible but its another possible addition.

salty , as ever , very informative, thanks fella i quite like the glass fish , and it would seem i could have a fair few of them too...i feel better about the snails too after your last comment .
