Ok I have a juwel 120 which is 20 litres and works out to about 30 usg i think.
I found somewhere that said I could have upto 25 fish (obviously depending on size) in it. This is what I have at the moment just wondered if I was overstocked have room for more or am just right.

1 male 2 female guppies, 1 male 3 female swordtails (some juvenile), 1 male 2 female mollies, 1 male 3 female platies (some juvenile) 1 peppered corydora 1 bristlenose pleco (only 2 inches long)1 female opaline gourami (about 3 inches) 1 dwarf puffer and 2 Synodontis aterrimus (1 is about an inch the other is about 2.5 inches) and some babies and small juveniles of various breeds which will goto my lfs when the right size.

Nope, your a little off, 20 litres is equal to 5 gallons.

So all you can really put in there is either a trio of platies (1 m, 2 f), or a trio of guppies (1 m, 2 f) or a single dwarf puffer. No mollies, swordtails, plecos, gouramis or normal sized cories I'm afraid. You might be able to get away with a single honey gourami, as they stay quite small.

It's a 120 litres, Meg  Which is about 31 US gallon.

It is still quite heavily stocked, particularly when all your swordtails, gourami, mollies etc have reached adult size. Up to 25 fish would be fine, if the 25 fish were smallish tetras but a fully grown molly or swordtail can easily hit 4 inches

What I would do with this tank would be:

take out the dwarf puffer. They can turn extremely nasty overnight; I'd get him a 5 gallon of his own

rehome either the swordtails or the mollies or the platies; that is a lot of fry-bearing fish for one medium-sized tank; and they are all fairly heavy poopers

either rehome the peppered cory or get him some mates- they are schooling fish (but then you would probably want to rehome something else to make room)

rethink whether I wanted to keep a gourami (quiet, slow-moving) with fast hyperactive fish like swordtails; keep an eye on them and see how they get on

is it 120 litres or 20 litres? if it is 120 litres it is 30 gal, if it is 20 litres then it is 5 gal. litres/4 =us gallons.

My rule is about 1 inch of full grown fish per gallon, not one fish, but one inch of fish. I wouldnt reccomend the puffers with the fish assortment you have chosen. I'd suggest ignoring pet store salesman and doing some research on the net by yourself.

sorry must of missed the 1 its a 120 litres not 20.
Yes the gourami gets on fine with everyone and is actually the boss of the tank.
The puffer is good so far and has a back up 10 gallon should he need it if he becomes aggresive i find keeping him busy with hunting and stuff takes his mind off pickingon the other fish. The puffer seems to keep the fry under control from the live bearers quite well and i also have a fry tank and an lfs which will happily take them off me so not so worried about that. Thanks everyone for your advice
how many mates would my cory need?
