Fish Addict
I just got a nice 30 US-gallon tank yesterday (36" long x 12" deep x 16" tall). While I'm waiting for it to cycle, I wanted to start researching options for fish.
It has sand substrate and I plan to put quite a few live plants in there. I'd like a peaceful community tank that's colorful and fun to watch (it's set up in my livingroom).
I know I DEFINATELY want a group of kuhli loaches because I've never kept them before and think they're adorable. How big of a group would be appropriate for this tank? (I was thinking maybe 6 or so? Or should I get more or less than that?)
I was also thinking about a pair of German Blue Rams and/or possibly a group of Penguin Tetras? -- I'm very fond of penguin tetras, but I think just having them and the rams would probably not be very colorful. I have a trio of koi-swordtails (1 male, 2 females) that I wouldn't mind moving to this tank if they would be appropriate. -- Also, I know Rams are supposed to be pretty peaceful, but would they get territorial and harm the other fish when they're spawning?
Other than the kuhli loaches (which I'm dead-set on having), I'm really open to ANY suggestions / combinations of fish...
The only fish that I'm not interested in for this tank are gouramis, bettas, platys, guppies, or mollys -- simply because I have them in other tanks (or I've kept them in the past). I'd like to try something new with this tank!
So how many kuhli loaches, and what other combinations would you all recommend?
Thanks!!
