Hi all,

Would there be any compatablity issues with these fish?

In Tank: Rio 180L

False Percula
Blue Damsel
Green Mandarin (coming next week)

Would like to add:

Royal Gramma
Purple Firefish
Orange Firefish
Flame Angle.

Any problems with these? I understand that the Firefish can be slightly territorial. Would a pair of each be better than single fish? Are they all considered reef safe?

Many thanks,

AK

The flame angel is 50-50, they may decide to eat corals. I'm not to sure about firefish, but you should probably add the royal gramma last because I know they're territorial.

Hi,
Dontr add a mandarin yet. I assume the tank is relatively newly set up and tmandarins need a well amtured tank at least 6 months old. They will not be able to survive due to the small amount of copepods.
Add 2 perculas as they will look better and hiopefully psar up. Forget the damsel they are aggressive and need to be in a shoal. If you go for any damsel go for a shoal of 3-4 blue green chromis.
Firstly, the flame angel may cause problems. It may nip at coral once all the macroalgae is gone. You could go for something like a goldrush (bristletooth) tang as they are not as large as most tangs and don't need as much swimming space.
Only go with one or the other of pruple or orange firefish. Also you will be more likely to see them if you have a pair of one or the other breed.
A royal gramma should be ok with the others povide plenty of caves for the firefish and royal gramma so they do not fight over territories.
Thanks,
Luke

Hi Siamese,

The tank has been set up about 3 months at my house however, it was an established aquarium of about 2 years or more prior to my taking ownership of it. I've got a lot of copepods in the tank and the sump refugium, so should be enough for the Mandarin until I get it onto frozen foods (although I'm told by the owner it already is eating various frozen foods).

The damsel fish came with the tank. They are damn hardy fish. He was skipping about on the sand as the water rushed up the other end of the tank in the car. He must of been really traumatized... but survived completely unscathed.

I've already got 1 false perc, so would like to add another.

Thanks for the heads up folks.

Ok some thoughts. First, the clownfish. If you want to add another false percula, make sure it is tank bred and one of the smaller ones of the litter to assure that it has not yet determined its sex. The current resident clownfish will be a female and will need to be paired with either a male or an immature one. Its easiest to pickout the immature ones cause they're the smaller ones :)

Do not, I repeat, do not have a purple firefish and a royal gramma in a tank that small, unless you want to watch the gramma kill the firefish. Gramma's are highly aggressive fish, especially to other grammas, OR other long, slender, purple colored fish ;). And since firefish are pretty much wusses, it's a bad combination unless you like bloodbaths. I personally would not put a gramma in a tank that small regardless. They're too aggressive for the small water volume.

Thanks Ski,

If I got a smaller clownfish it would be an embryo lol. Mines only about 1.5 inches. I definitely don't want to cause any harm to the fish so will lose the idea of a gramma, which is a shame as they are beautiful. I know the firefish can be kept in small groups. Would it be safe to keep a male and female of both the purple and orange firefish or would they squabble amoung themselves??

4 firefish in a 180L tank? Eh, it'd be OK if we're talking fish-only, but not if we're thinking reef...
