I know people ask this all the time but I just want to check that my tank isn't overstocked I dont want my fish to suffer because of my lack of knowledge
i've got a 30gal with good filtration lots of hiding places and some fake plants and 2 real plants
In it there is:-

1 angel fish
1 clown loach (I know he will get big but been advised by 3 lfs that they grow about 1 inch a year)
2 baby catfish
6 white cloud minnows
7 male guppies
3 mollies
and one black ghost knife. i think thats the correct term for it he is about 1 1/2 inches long all black with a white tail tip. he looks like he is wearing a cloak with his fins along the underside of his belly!!!
can anyone give me any info on this type of fish habitat behaviour food etc!!??

any help would be appreciated thanks

thats great thanks. he is a cool little guy just swims around in different directions. quite scary when they swim upside down tho. would reccommend as one to watch in the tank tho i hope he doesn't actualy grow to 24" cos he will have to go back to the lfs at that size!!!!

keep a close eye on the BGK he will get to at leat 50cms. And may become agressive but genraly timid. eats meaty food

that they grow about 1 inch a year
thats a lie lolwell for me it is :D mine have grown about 2.5" inless then half a year lol

as for ya tank the bgk willoutgrow tank lol i ahve 1 2 in my large tank ther wonderful fish

I have one of these fish. They are very cool fish. I like to eatch it swim. It will probably get t oa foot or so and will need like a 100 gallon aquarium [as they are very active] but you should be cool for a year or so, mine is in a 30 [when it needs it I will rehome it] but it's doing fine in my 30 gallon. They are starting to tank raise 'em now and that cuts down on aggression.

Word of advice it's not recommended for them to be put with other electric fish.

What kind of catfish?

erm not sure what type they are covered in dapply spots abit like a dark leopard. only about and inch long not even that!!! why dont tell me they get really big aswell or thats 4 fish i will have to rehome at some point!!!

Could be a common plec in which case they they will need rehoming too as they can eventully get to 2 feet long, could be something else though its hard to know without a picture or a better description, saying that most of the times when its an unidentified catfish bought for a small tank along with lots of other fish too big for the tank it turns out to be a common.

The BGK will start eating your guppies and minnows as he grows. Lovely fish but quite difficult to keep unless you have a large tank really. I was going to put one in my 90gal but got my Red Tailed Black Shark first and they will fight so never bothered. Everything else seems ok except you may have to keep an eye on your angel and the smaller fish as he may eat them when larger. As for the clown I had 4 small ones when I first started fish keeping and they do grow quite slowly, however they do really prefer groups and I know that 3 of mine died from a disaster early on, mainly bad lfs advice but the other one just never seemed himself after that and in the end died also. If he seems happy he will be ok for now but if he is swimming up and down the tank at the front that is a sign hes not happy. Hope this helps.

Oh, you really need to find out the name of those catfish aswell, there are a lot of different catfish and a lot can be very dangerous to smaller fish. From your decription it could be some sort of pleco which means they clean the glass? If not look at a few of the Synodontis species profile to see if they look anything like that.

Could be a pictus catfish. They are very pretty little catfish, but they're predators.

common plecos very rarely get to 2 ft long, more like a ft and a half n usualy not even that, its the sail fin or gibbies that can get 2 foot. but they are common plecos they still will get too big for your 30g.

They are definately catfish (well thats what they were sold as) ill try and get a pic to show you what they are like and will look them up on the net!!!

So far the catfish have kept away from the other fish they just tend to chase each other around. am keeping a close eye on the angel fish already had a problem with him. I bought two from the lfs and put them the tank at this point i had a betta they ganged up on my beautiful fish and ripped all his tails off and he died from his injuries. then i went on holiday for a week and when i got home they had obviously fought and one of the angels was dead. before he died I'd had a few nipped fins and tails but since one died no more nipped fins so he is staying on his own!!
will keep an eye on the BGK if he gets too big any bullying i will send him back to the lfs. where i bought him from the have massive display tanks of his own fish about 100gal maybe more so he tends to keep the ones that have got too big for others tanks in their as his own. unless someone specifically asks for them.

thanks for your help!!

I told him what fish fish i had in as I like to check that the fish I'm going to buy will be compatible with the fish i currently have I like to have the most peaceful tank I can get!!!

Your tank is pretty semi - agressive right now, not really a community tank. With a possible pictus cat and a BGK and an angel...
That pictus can and will eat those WCM same goes for the BGK AND angel. You should maybe do a little more research, seeing as you've already had your angel eat one fish and kill his mate. Sadly, it sounds as if you are just to overstocked which is causing stress to your fish.
I feel like I am kind of coming down on you and I am sorry, but for some reason no one else is really pointing out to you how mis-matched and overstocked your tank is... :/
Sorry.
