Hello everybody. I'm currently cycling my 10 gallon tank. I am going to add 5 flame tetras, 2 mystery snails, and 1 ghost shrimp. This leads up to my question. Is there room for a platy? I really want one but I'm not sure if there is enough room. I'm not even sure if they can be kept in singles either. I hear they can get up to 3 inches. Is 3 inches common or uncommon? If I would get one I would buy a red-wag platy.

Thanks in advance. :)

I keep 2 Red wags in my large community with 2 Sunsets and they do get around 3-4 inches full size but it depends on feeding intervals and diet interms of how fast they grow If you decide to get 2 make sure you get both females as a male and female as live bearers breed easily and i have had platy breed when in a tank with severums and red tail black shark so... Females have one fin behind their pectorals where as males have a spur/barb like instrument, Females can sometimes close up their fins so it appears as though they are males but a quick movememnt of a net will get them displaying and spreading their fins so you can see whats what.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you think one would be okay on its own though? I think I would be overstocked if I added two of them.

One might be ok, but they could suffer from depretion, i would personally only put no less then 2 in a tank.

Thanks. :)

I'll add one and see if its okay. If its not do you think I could add one more?

Yeah it wont hurt, aslong as you have good filtration, circulation and aeration
