I am thinking about getting a 75 gallon tank and I don’t know what I want to stock it with. Any suggestions?

African cichlids do really well in harder water and one can get some beautiful colors in african cichlids. Not sure if your into cichlids but 75 gal would be big enough

If not that then platties mollies guppies do well in hard water and swordtails

That was one of my options. I know they can’t be kept with many things but are there any fish that can go with them?

A lot of people keep clown loaches with them. Clown loaches need to be in groups as theyre social and they can get over 8 inches so keep that in mind. Larger plecos will be ok. Keep in mind youd also want to add them around the same time, if you have full grown cichlids and add some smaller clown loaches or plecos theyre gonna get beat up. Best to add them close to same size, or add the clown loaches first and add smaller cichlids than them. Im no expert at keeping cichlids but if thats the route you go check out the african cichlid forum on this board

No worries, good luck with whatever you choose, i was actually just looking at a 75 today and thinking about getting one as well.
I am recently new to the hobby and have 3 tanks so this will be a huge upgrade

Basically, no. Rift lake cichlids should be on their own. Some of the Synodontis catfish that are native to the rift lakes can work, depending upon species (of cichlids and catfish) and the tank size. But no other fish.

Clown loaches are soft water fish and they wiull not be in good health in water hard enough for rift lake fish. And they need a group of five minimum, and this means a tank of 8 feet (240 cm) length.
