Having a new tank delivered this week its a fluval roma 240 (120cm long x 40cm wide x 50cm high).

I want to make this into community tank and just looking for ideas of different types of fish i can keep together, also what would be the ideal amount of fish to keep in a tank this size.

tell us some fish you like and we can suggest others to go with them.

The number of fishes in the tank depends on how often you want to do water changes and how good the filters are. It also depends on the size of the fish and they behaviour.
Once the filters have cycled your best be is to monitor the nitrate levels. If they go up rapidly then you need to do more water changes or decrease the food or number of fish in the tank. If the nitrates don't go up very fast then you could probably add a few more fish.

The filter is a fluval 305 external filter.

Would like to try keeping angel fish, but not sure if i would then be greatly restricted as to what i can put with them.

a pr of angelfish would be fine in there and you could keep most of the larger types of tetra, smaller peaceful barbs, gouramis and all sorts of different catfish.

Maybe go for a group of small angelfish. let them grow up together and pair off. Then keep a pair and get rid of the rest. You could keep black phantom, rosy, emperor, diamond, bleeding heart or congo tetras with them. Ruby or gold barbs, flying foxes, corydoras catfish, keyhole or ram cichlids. Bristlenose or most other sucker mouth catfish.
Tetras, barbs and corydoras catfish should be kept in groups or 6 or more. Dwarf cichlids should be kept in pairs. Suckermouth catfish can be kept individually, in pairs or groups. Most people just have a pair or one.

Thanks for those ideas, is it possible to keep tiger barbs with them.

Most would say no but I keep mine in large groups and they dont seem to have any problems at all with their tankmates. Im really pleased with my stocking at the moment. Check my sig.

I wouldn't keep tiger barbs with angelfish. Ruby barbs are similar in colour and much less likely to chew up fins.

Thanks for your replies, here is a pic of my new setup.

Not too sure about angel fish now, main reason is i think as they get older if will be hard to find campatible tank mates and i think i would not be able to have a large community of fish.
