I have a 10 gallon aquarium which has been cycled and is running great. Everything Is going fine. I have experience with fish, but only the ones which are easy to care for. My aquarium is heated and doesn't have many decorations. I have fake plants and a couple of river stones. Im planning on getting some real plants real soon. It has a natural look and I want fish that will kind of make it even more pleasing to look at. I have in mind a couple of different fish im interested in. I have read the 10 gallon recommendations on your site already.

If you have a couple of ideas in mind, post them and we will try and help/advice you on them ;)

Its a very plain setup. I want to put a female betta in the 10g. What elso could go in there? I was also thinking of making it an invert tank. If I put sea shells in the tank would that be all the calcium i would need for snails? The pH here is pretty hard.

a female betta is very septable to desiease so i would go for
1 male betta
6 tetras/cherry barbs/rasboras

or just guppies n other live bearers

At the bottom of my sig. you will find a link to suitable fish for a 10 gallon. The easiest to keep are harlequin rasboras, pygmy cories, sparkling gouramis and honey gouramis. Endlers, guppies and neon tetra sp. are also options but are not as hardy IMO. You might also consider Amano or Cherry shrimp. Apart from that youre a bit limited really. Bettas are a bad idea in any community tank and in such a small tank are destined to disaster. They should only ever be kept as a solitary fish in its own tank, preferably 10 gallons upwards.

I'll leave the betta out of the 10g. Are any of the fish you mentioned hardy. I've never owned any of them.

The ones that I said are "easy to keep" are all relatively hardy in my experience as are honey gouramis. Platies are also an option, quite hardy but are livebearers so you may have to contend with lots of fry unless you go all male + they get a little big for a 10 gal IMO.

I was thinking of making the 10 gallon an invert tank. I was thinking of getting some of those bamboo plants they have at Petsmart. I have been asking around and people have told me I can have them as long as I don't have them fully submerged. I think I'll be better at keeping inverts than fish. The tank will look nice with real plants instead of fake ones and they'll help with the water quality. I went out last sunday and picked up 2 mystery snails. I was originally planning on getting two fiddler crabs for the tank, but I have no experience with brackish fish. They are great. They have been exploring their home and getting settled in. They have calcium and I have been told everything is great. I was also thinking of putting a freshwater clam in the tank, but I don't think the Petsmart around here sells them. Any other suggestions? I really need my questions answered.

I would start a new thread on this in the oddballs forum if I were you. You need someone with quite specialised knowledge which most tropical keepers won't have.
