Stocking Ideas

The fact I've had a 55g sitting around, uncycled since my birthday (June 22nd) is depressing for me. Any stocking ideas at all? I prefer a community (might work my way up to planted) with nonaggressive fish, a lot of shoalers and bright colors. But for gods sake, no livebearers this time. Also, the filter is only like 330 GPH and an HOB so I need it to be understocked.

LOL yeah. Well I bounced from growout tank to amazonian biotype to sorority to cichlid.. don't blame me. I'm indecisive!

I'd like to know if my filter can hold, let's say, 55 inches of fish or not. I want at least 5 cories, hopefully 7 or more, and it's going to likely be a biotype tank, so I guess it's a south american biotype - with a about 2/3 tetras and cories (not all one type of tetra) and maybe a centerpiece fish?
