I'm really sorry to the people who read all sections as this is just a copy paste from the New World section, but I want opinions about both types of cichlids. I am restarting my Juwel Rio 180 litre, and am trying to be very open-minded, so I welcome all suggestions. My husband and I have decided we definitely want to go the cichlid route, but we're not sure whether we should go for Old World or New. I'll be posting something in both sections, in the hopes of someone persuading me to go one way or the other. The only thing I know is that whichever fish I get, I want to attempt to make the tank as natural for them as possible. I don't mind working hard on water chemistry. I'm about to graduate with a biomedical sciences degree and I have the feeling I will be missing all of the labs.

Thank you in advance!

As for the natural look you wouldnt have to try very hard with the old world cichlids. It's basically just rocks and crushed coral sand. The new world cichlids would be a bit harder. There are plants and theres more water chemistry involved. I have kept both and I literally just 5 minutes ago finished setting up a 75 gallon old world tank.

I have a six foot setup for tanganyikans and one for malawis and wanted a natural looking tank. even went as far as making my own sand mix (not just crushed coral!!!) the rock choice is important too if you want a true lake reflection so i went for something similar as at hand ( found in my garden lol)
Anyways these are the tanks a few months back need to get some new photos
