hey all,

i have a fluval 200L tank with about 30 malawis in but the local college are having the fish as my parents do not like them - i do tho lol. once one becomes ill, the others attck it and it dies. So, this is now a great opportunity for me restock my tank after they go and i do my fishless cycle.

i would like your opinions on which fish to put in here.

i did want oscars and parrot fish but i have now gone off that idea.

i know want approx:

x5 albino corys
x2 Yo Yo loaches
x8 guppies
x5 neon tetras

plz give me advice, what u would like to put in there and what u recrommend me to put in there. thanks, all posts welcome!

i forgot to put:

x2 german blue rams hehe! <<< love these fish!

with such a nice sized tank I would suggest a dozen tetras if not more. Guppies I would say you could get a good amount of too but they do breed like rabbits so be prepared for a small invasion if you get alot. All louche need to be kept in groups of 4-6 Min and your tank can gold a good amount of them. Cories sound fine but again you can hold more if you like. I estimate your tank to be around 60 gallons? It can hold a good variety of fish.

Thats a 44 gallon tank same as mine and you could go will at that fish you have suggested.

thanks mwood, thanks you lol, i love my tank. i know that i can fot in more of each species but i am in a pickle - what else can i put in? also, i am putting in my two white spot catfish (approx 4inch) from my Rio 125 into my 200L!

i have calculated my tank, it is 200L and 60G

i have got:

x1 300watt heater
x1 12" air stone and
x2 fluval 4's

i would like:

- guppies
- neons
- german blue rams
- albino corys
- Yo Yo loach
- i dunno what else lolz! depands whats in my LFS when i go there i suppose but i myt ask them to order sum stock in for me maybe!

8 guppies
8 or 12 neons
A pair of german blue rams
6 albino corys
2 or 4 Yo Yo loaches
Thats what I would recommend but stock gradually.

I would suggest something other then just Fuval filters. If you have the money for it a Canister filter would work very well for your tank and provide a better environment for you tank. Thats not to say you cant keep said fluval but just add some more filtration. A canister filter for that size will run you a 100+ bucks but you can opt for a small canister to work with your fluval such as a Marineland Magnum Canister which runs for 50-70 bucks. Also a planted tank would be awesome for such a tank but you would need to look up the plants best for your lighting, substance and if you would need a Co2 system. Lastly a big thing with louche is they would prefer a sand substance or a small rounded gravel. They can go through rough gravel since they may hurt themselves or damage there barbel (pretty sure I spelled wrong)

thanks for the advice guys, i have got sand in now for my malawis but it keeps blocking the pumps so i have got a huge bag of fine gravel ready to put in then they go.

ROSC, as for ur advice, im very greatful as i stocked my Rio 125 up sensibly but for xmas '07, i just rushed in and bought 2 angles, 2 key holes, 3 clown loaches all that same time and they all dies. so, this time, i am going to to sensible again becuase since xmas '07, i have matured and have become a much more serious fish keeper. when i do get my fish, i ont be adding more than 5 in at a time, e.g. 5 guppies one day then go to my LFS every 2weeks to get a few more such as 3 corys, then another 3 corys so on and so on.

MWood, thanks for your advice to but i havent got tht sort of money lol. im only 16, maybe when im a bit older. thank you anyway!

oh and your aware of fishless cycling right (just checking). Also if your stripped for cash you can get a marineland HoB filter for around 30 bucks which is suited for 75 Gallons. It will provide lots of room for filter media. While you can use the pads provided you can throw anything you like into its large compartments. This will provide you with the chance pack in filter floss, Carbon (only if needed), Bio max and other things that can keep your tank properly cycled.

o thanks. yes i now the fishless cycle. pain init lol. im planning on leaving my tank for about 3 weeks doing the fishless cycle recording the ammonia levels etc.

Yeah thats a good Idea some every two weeks gives the filters a chance to catch up.

i was derbating with my self lol wether to have 10 albino corys. if so, i think i would get 8 albino and 2 bronze. also, i dunno what other catfish / bottoms would be ok with corys. i know yo yo loaches will be!
