Hey everyone,

I am up grading my tank from a 45 to a 50 (doesn't sound like much but it really is. The 45 is narrow and about 12 inches depth and the 50 is 18-19 inches depth. It will allow so much more creative freedom! ) I'm looking for advice on stocking the tank. I'm going for the Asian Theme and the fish that I want are tiger barbs, rainbow shark, paradise fish, danios, and maybe Harlequin Rasbora.

The guaranteed fish that have to be it are 12 tiger barbs 6 green and 6 albino, and the rainbow shark.(have these already)

I go back and forth on the Harlequin because of aggression of the other fish, they are too peaceful I think, but I love their look. ( I guess I just eliminated that one my self :shifty: )

I was thinking maybe:

6 albino
6 green
6 regular
2 paradise fish
1 rainbow shark
8-12 danios

Gosh that sound like a lot, its my ideal but I know it probably wont work. Another would be bumping my albino and green schools instead of the regular, which I think would look very nice but how many could I still add, six? 3 more of each color?

It will be pretty heavily planted, with Aqua 50 and an Aqua 70 filters.

I wish I could have more bottom fish but due to my sharks no tolerance policy of fish on the bottom and his increasing agression with his size i dont want to rish any fish. He works now becuase he and my tigers have like a peace agreement or something but who knows with new fish  .

Any suggestions would be great!!!

You know you want too!

HI
IVE ALWAYS FOUND HARLEQUINS GO FINE IN WITH TIGER'S AS LONG AS THERE ARE A FAIR SIZED SHOAL OF TIGERS. MAYBE TRY SOME CHERRY BARBS OR GELIUS BARBS. YOU MAY HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH PARADISE FISH SEEING AS THEY ARE LONG FINNED.

HI I'VE ALWAYS FOUND THAT NOT TALKING IN CAPS LOCK IS A GREAT ADDITION TO ASIAN TANKS, THE BEAUTIFUL COLOUR OF THE NOT CAPS LOCK FISH WAVING AROUND IN THE SUN.

SOMETIMES I LIKE WRITING IN CAPSLOCK ITS SO TEMPTING TO PEOPLE WHO LIKE SUGGESTING SOME S.AMERRICAN CORYDORUS FOR WHICH COULD BE AN INTERESTING ASIAN BIOTOPED TANK, MAYBE WE COULD PUT SOME CARDINALS IN THERE TO REALLY SET THE ASIAN THEME GOING. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

haha, ya'll are funny. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Ya I was a little iffy on the paradise fish because of the fins. I've have also heard that they will kill other fish in the night which had me a little weary. I think ill not get those and change them for the Harlequins?

So something like this:

8 albino
8 green
1 rainbow shark
8-12 Harlequin Rasbora

Does that sound overstocked to anyone? Do you think that all these fish would be able to live comfortably with one another and have space?

Oh and I would love Panda Cories, and do plan on getting them or another type of Cory for another tank but they actually aren't Asian. :D

Paradise fish are considered very dominant and agressive, so yes, a good idea to leave them out. But what about some other gourami family member? They are all Asian, and there are lovely ones around, which will do great in your tank.

I would not take the pearls, as the tiger barbs might nip their fins, although I have my pearls with serpae tetras (notorious nippers!) and no problems whatsoever. What about banded, honey, three spot or croaking gouramis? I think a trio (1 male, 2 female) would make a great addition to your tank. Look at this thread: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1732113 for pictures of the different species.

Some sort of bottom-feeding fish and/or an algae eater would be nice. Personally I'd rather have a Siamese Algae Eater for the tank, and/or a small group of Kuhli loaches - or even a small Botia like the Dwarf Chain Loach - maybe an Asian catfish if you can find one.

CHAIN LOACH ARE QUITE COOL, ONE THE FEW BOTIA WHICH ARE NOT THAT AGGRESSIVE GOOD IDEA, THERE ARE A FEW ASIAN CATFISH IVE SEEN SOME GAGGATA CATS, WHICH ARE ASIAN AND THEY PREFER A LOWER TEMP. COMPARED TO MOST TROPS, OR THEIR ARE SOME OTHER CATS WHICH ARE SOMETIMES CALLED HUMMINGBIRD CATS. SORRY DON'T KNOW THEIR LATIN GOOD LUCK WITH THE TANK.
