So I have a 5.5 gallon tank with about 1 inch of small gravel in it and I don't know what to get. Well actually I kind of do. I want to keep a few shrimp maybe different kinds (not to breed) For example, Cherry Reds and Amano Shrimp. Or like any inverts. I just want to read some suggestions and then come up with what I will get for my tank :D I can't set it up yet so I have a lot of time to research! I need to gather money to buy the filter and anyother things I may need for my tank (an air pump?) I suppose it depends on what I put in it.

Anyways, Thanks a lot guys!

My 5.5 has a pair of Dwarf African Frogs, Cherries, and a few Nerite/Malaysian Livebearing snails.

I also have Amano, but I keep them in my community tank. From what I understand mixing algae-eating shrimp species is bad in the long run. One invariably ends up better at eating algae and out-competes the other.

Dwarf crayfish.

edit:Sorry for the brief reply, was in a rush.

I think dwarf crayfish would be great for your tank, i've never had them(its only legal to own one type of crayfish here), but i would if i was able to(looking into a license for future...).
Check out these auctions: procambarus vioscai and cambarellus shufeldtii.
If your willing to import from Germany, you can even get orange ones(not dyed in any way!)orange German auction(live arrival guaranteed).

Really? You can keep frogs in such a small tank + other fish/snails/shrimp? If so, Ill look into it but Im not so sure I want a frog.

And thanks for the reply T-F Ill look through some info on Dwarf Crayfish :D. Are they legal in the U.S?

Oh nevermind I don't want to spend that much money on the crayfish. As I said before Im broke and it'll be hard to get money ... I'll see what I get on X-Mas :D Anyways guys, please keep the suggestions coming.

P.S. If I get algae eating shrimp what do I feed them when they eat all the algae ( algae wafers ?)?

Yep algae wafers would be good, but i would recommend other food too. They're not strict algae eaters, they just love the stuff. I fed mine catfish pellets and they loved those too, but they will eat pretty much whatever your fish eat :) .

What if I gave them Turtle Pellets? Would they eat that? It floats though ...

I don't like buying the Algae Wafers because its like $5+ per small bag. I could buy a large fish flakes can for that price lol (I know I am cheap but Im 14 so I don't have too much money hehe. But when I do get money I spend it all on my fish and tanks.) Last time I got money I bought the 5.5 gallon tank and gravel and bam it was all gone!!! :X

Lol, i know how it feels, being pretty much the same age as you  .
Turtle pellets might be ok if you can get them to sink, just check the ingredients for copper.
For some reason some company's think its a good idea to put copper in their food

Okay thanks .. nah I don't think they will sink so I guess that's is a no. They are made especially to float for the turtles ... Ummm cool I didn't know you were young lol It's cool that you know so much :D Wish their were kinds like you where I live lol They're too busy with video games to care for a pet. Anyways I will check for copper in the ingredients anyways ...
