I have a 2 foot tank which is 14 UK gallons, so about 18 US gallons. If you follow the 'inch per gallon' rule that gives me about 18 inches of fish to play with.

[as an aside, thinkfish gives me a maximum stocking level of 77cm on this tank - that's about 30 inches :hyper: ]

I want a planted tank, so how about this stocking:

6 lemon tetras - 12 inches
4 cherry barbs - 8 inches

I know that's slightly over but they are small peaceful fish, so I'm hoping it would be OK.

And would it be over the top to put a smallish plec (say a pitbull plec) in there too? Or would that be a mistake?

That stocking seems OK. just as long as you keep up with water changes. As for a pleco, they are really messy and poop a lot! so maybe not such a good idea. but then again it all depends on your maintenance schedule.

I will be running an interpet PF2 filter - would that cope with a plec?

i have a 2ft tank and think you can add a few more fish than that...as long as your water ok and the fish have plenty of room there shouldn't be a problem.

i have a bristlenose plec and its fine. i bought it very young so its growing up in my tank and quite interesting to watch. dont buy anything like the common plec cos they grow quite big!
