Hi, I am currently cycling a 240 litre tank with ammonia (just cleared 4ppm in about 3 days), I will wait until it can clear ammonia and nitrite in 24hrs before stocking.
My question is, how many neon tetras can I stock in one go after it has cycled please? 6? 10?
All answers very much appreciated.

If you are doing a fishless cycle with ammonia, once the cycle is finished, you can add almost all the fish you plan at once. You just need to leave some sensitive species for a few months. It's only fish-in and silent cycling where you need to add fish a few at a time.

You can add as many neons as you plan to have plus most of the other fish you want as well.

Thanks for the reply, didn't realise that. Didn't want to overwhelm the bacteria with too much load.

Ok next question, with so many different opinions on stocking tanks it's a bit difficult to know what level is best.
tentatively thinking
40 neons (maybe 30)
2 pearl gourami
10 sterbai or julii corys
later some shrimp
I worry that this is too much.
your thoughts please
It's a fluval roma with a 305 filter, pipework through the bottom of the tank. 15 years old maybe

That sounds fine to me - maybe get 1 male, 2 or 3 females rather than just 2 of them.

If you are certain you won't another sholaing fish, 30 neons would be fine, but if you ever decide you want another species, you may find there's not enough space left. If this is a possibility, stay with 20 neons.

I agree that the shrimps should be left till later - I have shrimps in my main tank and the pearl gouramis leave them alone.

Thanks again,
I've always wanted a big shoal of neon since I saw my friends dad's tank when I was younger, this may change in time.
With regards to the gourami, is that for fish behaviour or for breeding? Not bothered about breeding, I figured all females would be more chilled out.

Idea is a natural looking tank that the fish feel comfortable in. Got a £15 mixed cutting selection of plants online. Will alter accordingly depending on how they do and what plants take my fancy.

All females would be OK. it's just that with one male in there, it is better to have multiple females in case the male gets too 'amourous'

lol, I shall keep that in mind :) thanks again

So I'm thinking add 30 tetras, wait a couple of weeks then add the 10 corys, wait a couple of weeks then add the gourami. does that sound ok?

I'm sorry but, I can't help you with that, it was just a mixed selection and although they sent a list of the plants they sell they didn't mark off which plants I received. I wouldn't like to guess and tell you the wrong information.

Before you get the Pearl Gourami, you might want to look at some floating plants. It makes them feel comfortable, as they will love the shade.
