I've got a soon to be modded Baby BiOrb and need to work out what to stock it with when it's been modded. I've asked about Tiger Barbs or 5 Ring Barbs in another thread but was advised even 4 would be over stocked in a tank this small. So would a Single male Siamese Fighter, a couple of Cherry Red Shrimp and an Apple Snail be too much? Would it be cruel keeping a single fish on it's own?

I prefer on getting shrimps only because i am afraid that ur betta will attack ur shrmps and snail. Dont mix them together.

Your second stocking idea would be fine. Maybe even room for a few more small fish (just no nippers!!). I think that cherry red shrimp breed like crazy, but i may be completely wrong.

Siamese fighters sometimes are best suited to being a single fish in a aquarium.

EDIT (for above post) - I wasn't aware that fighters attack snails. I'm sure they don't (my tank is infested with the coned B*strds, and fighter doesnt even pay attention.)

Betta's temperaments vary widely from fish to fish. While some will be fine with snails or shrimp, others will tear them to shreds.

So are Betta's temperaments suited to being on their own? I'm looking for a companion for one but something that will co-exist peacefully.

In all honesty, I've found that most Betta's really prefer to be on their own. Some may tolerate tankmates...but don't go out and buy fish thinking you're giving your Betta company.
