basically i have a 60l tank and this is what i want to end up with

2 male guppys
3 tiger barbs
3 golden danios
4 neon tetras

also i was hoping to have like a pleco or something

can anyone tell me if this is any good?

cheers

dont get the tiger barbs as they are best in groups of about 10 and are quite aggressive i have found in past experience
bulk up the danios and tetras to 8 each and for algae eaters either large shrimp or ottos
the shrimp dont do much to help clear the algae but if you had a lot of them then possibly it might work
the male guppys its up to you but i would find a pair of dwarf gouramis nice along the top

ok well i am doing a fish in cycle and currently have 1 tiger barb 2 danios and 1 guppy

i know they like to be in bigger numbers thats why i want to get a few more

i dont know what to do now!

mixing guppys and tiger bars is a big no no, as you will often find that the tiger barbs learn to shred the guppys tails
danios and tetras will also nip at guppys

if you go down the rout of tetras you will need to be keeping them in numbers of at least 5,
if you go down the rout of guppys you can either choose all Males, or keep them in trios of 2 females for every 1 male

yeah well at the moment my current guppy is fine with the tiger barb and danios they swim along happily together.

would my tiger barb be ok by itself or should i sacrifice the tetras for more tiger barbs and danios 1 more male guppy and 2 otos or something

60 litres is not big enough for tiger barbs, 30g min IMO. see if you can re-home him, and increase tetra numbers. the danios will more than likely shred the guppies too. but neons are generally okay

as davo86 said, the tiger barbs wil nip at the gupps fins, and any other fish that have trailing fins for that matter, includin the gouramis that josh mentioned.
on the issue of the pleco, dependin on the species, they can get very big. A 60l wouldnt be sufficient for a growin pleco. I have a pleco, and the speed at which hes growin is unreal and hes gettin very big, i will actually be gettin a newer larger tank soon because of this

but fair play for comin ere and lookin for the advice, not may think to do this :)

yeah so basically

cant have tiger barbs
increase the number of danios
get neon tetras
get another guppy
and also i would like something a bit different to just normal slim fish, any reommendations?

well so far i have had no problems but i will phone up the shop and see if they will take him back

can anyone recommend a fish thats diferent to all the slim fish, and that would be ok in my tank?

And a clown pleco...

I'd speculate that the Tiger barb is only being laid back due to stress, as a result of poor water quality as associated with a fish-in cycle ;) When the cycle completes and the Barb's behavior returns to normal, the Guppy will likely be shredded  That is in the un-likely event that the Guppy makes it through the cycle

Tiger barbs need a minimum group of 4, with 6 being better. The larger the group, the less nippy they get. They would be OK in a 60l IMO, but in a recomended group of 6, they would have the tank fully (and dibatably over) stocked at 2 inches per gallon ;)

The Guppies needs and requirements are well covered above by Davo above. :good:

The Guppy will likely go over in the cycle, so that may be of little concern to you unless you want to rescue it and get it re-homed ASAP. After that, you need to decide whether or not to keep the tiger barbs, or to keep the danios and get Neons to go with. If the latter, you will have to up the numbers to 6 for each to keep them happy, and you can then call the tank stocked, or overstocked again at 2" per gallon :good:

I'd advise waiting untill the tank is 6 months old before adding neons, for the same reason as waiting for guppies. No doubt you saw the post explaining why, and hence why this thread started? ;)

All the best
Rabbut

EDIT to add, Dwarf Gourami are nice, but need to be ket lone male, or trio (1M2F) to avoid agression. they are nippy, and would need to replace the Tetras or Danios in your final stocking... They will not work with the Tiger Barbs, due to overstocking, or Guppies though, as they are nippy...

ok wel like i said i will try and get rid of the tiger barb

at the moment i am doing a daily water change and testing everyday so most of the time the water quality is good

i will gradually increase the numbers of danios and probably get another guppy and wait a while till i think about getting ant tetras.

you mentioed a clown pleco dont they get pretty big, and are they ok by themselves in a tank, ie with no other clown pleco

clown pleco scrapes 4 inches, your thinking of clown loach ;)

plecos are ok in 1's but i keep bristlenose's in pairs in my 60 litre, but there getting an upgrade soon!
