Fish store near me has African Cichlids, 6 for $40. They have Blue/Red Zebras, Johannis, Paecocks, Mbunas and more. Are they good for a 55 gallon? What else can go in with them?
It is best to do research and plan African tanks in advance so that you don't end up with a war on your hands, which happens almost any time people randomly select cichlids without knowledge about them. Some tips that might help you get started:
-Zebra's and Johanni are mbuna
-Mbuna that look similar should not be kept together
-Peacocks should not be kept with most mbuna
-Never buy a cichlid without knowing what it is and what it's attributes are
-With a few exceptions, the only fish that should be kept with Mbuna are more Mbuna
-There are many types of 'African Cichlids' and most are not compatible - be careful.
