In this 55 gallon tank I will have the following: 9 pygmy corys, 4 zebra oto's, 2 peacock gudgeons, 2 female bettas, 3 angels, 1 apple snail, 1 opaline gourami. It will be a planted tank with a fluval 304 canister filter.

The female bettas might pose a problem. I've heard that female bettas can be as agressive twords other species, as males are to their own species.

I also think 3 Angels might be alittle too much. Try 2.

Hello there, this is just my opinion I dont think betta is a good fish to be keep in an community tank specialy a pair. And also I think eheim canister filter would be alot better then fluval over all in an planted tank. Good luck to ya:)

but they are female bettas, and have had success in a 12 gallon community tank

Ya, i was about to buy that filter but decided to go with the fluval because of the better price and no surface agitation if you put the spray bar under the water line, too bad cause i really like the eheim

I use an Eheim 2028 in my 55 gall planted tank and have the spray bar under the surface, so no surface agitation. Works really well and I highly recommend Eheim - I have them on 2 tanks now, along with the fitted internal filters. :) I would also avoid putting only 2 female bettas in your tank, I'm afraid.
