Stocking A 25l (7g) Tank

I to was thinking about them as I have a 7 gal tank with sand and shells so I was also wondering how many multi's could fit into a 7 gal hmm

3 or 4 guppies?
2 or 3 females and 1 male
or
some platies?
2 or 3?
or
2 mollies...but they would get very lonely so i wouldn't recommend that and they usually grow quite big depending on the species.

or there's the african dwarf froms, plants, shrimp,

Livebearers, like the tetras, like more swimming space than a 7g offers.

I would get a nice betta, a red or black one would go with the theme. :) And some nice live plants would make him feel at home and provide contrast.

2 at most and that largely depends on how much "floor space" the aquarium has. If it's a typical rectangle, then you might get away with 2 but if it's more tall than long, just the one. I'm going to have 6 L. stappersi in a 30 gallon and may have to relocate 2 of them. Shelldwellers as a group are often aggressive and territorial.

IIRC, volcanic rock is usually inert.

Possibly. It depends on where you get it from. I've had some that was labeled "lava rock" and looked basically the same as things labled "volcanic rock". It was definitely not inert. Its hard to tell with rocks if you don't test. :good:

Hence why I said usually. ;) I think true volcanic rock is inert but I can't recall for certain though even if it is, I suppose you have to contend with mislabled rock sometimes as well.

The piece of rock in the tank I picked up from Hawaii when I was a little tacker :)
It's been in there a week now and the water chems all seem fine. The water's not too hard. I'll get some more accurate readings and post them later... got a job interview with Google in a minute :)

I totally agree about the livebearers mentioned above, but there are some others that would work:

heterandria formosa aka least killifish (they're not killifish, they are livebearers)
endlers
