I have a 60 gallon aquarium (fully cycled) filtered by cascade 1000 canister filter, and im planning on stocking it with the following: 1 opaline gourami, 2 angels, 1 female betta, 1 applesnail, 3 guppies, and 6 platies. any suggestions on how these fish will get along? also i was wondering about an algae eater any suggestions? (anything non-aggressive except plecos)

Sorry some of them fish are just not compatable at all, betta's,angels, gouramis, the livebearers are fine as long as you don't keep the other three types fin nippers.

The opaline won't work with the betta - especialy if the opaline is male. The angels are also likely to kill the guppies.

As far as an algae eater goes, the siamese algae eater would be a good choice but you could also get some otos once the tank is mature. Besides an SAE, oblongus, false SAE and flying foxes will also eat algae but vary in terms of size and aggression (the FF is the most aggressive but not realy by much - it's also generaly the largest and most colorful and probably the worst out of those as an algae eater). Any of these should get along with what you are proposing except, perhaps, the guppies (but they're not a good idea anyway).

The american-flag fish is another fish that could work and will eat algae quite readily. It MAY get nippy with the angels or guppies but should be fine - a trio would be the best choice so they'll occupy each other.

Apple snails will also eat algae. You don't realy need an algae-eater anyway; just keep from over-feeding, make sure you aren't over-doing the light or over-stocking, use an algae scraper when necessary and keep up with water changes.

PLEASE EVERYONE DISREGARD THIS POST! My mom saw a 29 gallon tank (all accessories included) in the classifieds for only 75 bucks! Im going to put the platies in that tank and move the opaline gourami to my 75 galloner. So now i only have a female betta and applesnail to build the stocking around.

Where did the angels go? If they're gone, then we can have fun!!!

lol i dont actually have the angels, i was planning on getting some soon though, but obviously ive got to do some restocking...........too bad i love those little angels.

60g is a nice size then, to have a little fun. Have you ever considered a biotope? Fish from the same region of the world.

yeah ive thought about a biotope, but since im building around an applesnail and 2 females, it wouldnt be an official biotope as the snail comes from mexico and the bettas are from asia(as you already know). Id love to do a biotope, just not with these fish, as most asian freshwater species dont seem interesting to me (except brackish asian fish, I LOVE brackish). also it would be hard doing a mexican biotope as they like somewhat cooler tempatures and alkeline water PS lljdma06, i love your dog in your icon.
