Hi there

Probably a question asked by many, but just starting out in keeping tropical fish - have a wall tank which is great looking but limiting due to depth - dimensions are 1730x280x80mm. Have you any advice on the type of fish that will keep in this tank. I'm not entirely novice, have kept cold water fish for years.

Many thanks

Dean

37 litres really isn't much, but you do have options.

A betta would be quite happy in a tank that size, along with a few small shoaling fish and perhaps some snails. I'd suggest shrimp but they'd probably end up as a snack.

Personally, with the tank well cycled and a decent filter...

-1 x siamese fighter
-6-10 x small shoalling fish (either Endlers Guppies or a species of Microrasbora liek Boraras Merah)
-4-6 x Algae Shrimp OR 6-10 Carodina sp (spelling) Cherry shrimp etc

Thanks for replies here. Wow, it's a small amount of fish you're both suggesting. Is this merely due to the limit a tank this size can cope with or far a balanced look? I know less is more and by the time you have plants and rocks in etc, so maybe will be fine...? This is the tank in question...http://wall-aquarium.com/product_info.php?products_id=34

Well I got it for £500 - still pricey enough for something which probably cost £150 to make! But hey, I'm a designer, needs to look great too! :)

if i were you this would be my stocking

3 fancy male guppies
6 neons, or harlequin rasboras, or micro rasboras
4 cherry shrimp or amano shrimp
and a dwarf gourami
