What do you think of this stocking plan for a 105l tank? (3ftLx1ftWx15"D) The Platies I have already in my 10gal, I have just started the fishless cycle with the 3ft tank so am considering suitable options. This tank is going to be for smaller fish and I would like colourful, shoaling fish as well as some unusual and bottom feeding fish. Not sure about the shrimps? What do you think? Any suggestions welcome. All these fish are available and inexpensive locally. Thanks!

Platy x 6 (+fry periodically)
Coolie Loach x 4
Dwarf Rainbowfish x 5
Threadfin Rainbowfish x 5
Siamese Fighting Fish (Male) x 1
Panda Cory x 4 (or other similar Cory) OR 4 x YoYo Loach
Galaxy Rasbora x 8

(Fan Shrimp x 2?)

Hello!

I've taken a look at your stocking list and here are my views:

Platy x 6 - No problems whatsoever.
Koolie Loach x 4 - Again, no problems but your better off getting 6 or more. Also, make sure you have a sand substrate as these guys like to bury.
Dwarf Rainbowfish x 5 - No sure on what the exact species your looking at is. However, I see no problems with this.
Threadfin Rainbowfish x 5 - No worries.
Siamease Fighting Fish (Male) x 1 - Would be ok.
Panda Cory x 4/ YoYo Loach x 4 - I would go for the Panda Corydoras (or similar). Again, make sure you have sand.
Galaxy Rasbora x 8 - Not bad. However, I found these guys thrive and prefer softwater. You don't state where your from but chances are you have hard tap water meaning the immune system on this fish will be weakend quite alot. These fish are really delicate and special due to the 'over-fishing' fiasco. I would choose something else to be honest. Most rasboras prefer softwater. How about 8 glowlight tetra?
Fan Shrimp x 2 - I'm guessing you mean the Singapore Rock Shrimp. Not bad but diet can cause problems as they only eat small frozen foods such as cyclops and daphina. This will hard to feed them as the other fish are likely to eat it before them. Also, you would probably want 6-8 instead of just two.

Otherwise it's understocked and fine! Good luck and keep us informed!

Thanks for your input. I'm near Manchester (UK) and as far as I know we are not a hard water area. I thought of the Galaxies because both LFS have them in stock but am open to suggestions.

Glowlights could be good, I was also considering Danios (zebra) or Sparkling Gouramis?

I do have sand substrate, approx 2 inches deep and am planning on a mix of live and fake plants, including some floating, with a couple of caves for hiding places.

Hoping tank will be ready in 2-3 weeks so will let you know how it goes!

Yeah that's fine. Most of the UK (South-West excluded) have hard-water (if any at the moment - my thoughts are with you). I really would go for Glowlights instead of Galaxy Rasboras. Zebra Danios would be fine too! In fact you could add 5 or 6 Zebra Danios to the original stocking list and still be ok.

Sounds like a plan! I was deliberately leaving some room in the stocking to allow for platy fry, they will have to fend for themselves but I expect some will survive. (I have 4 out of 7 left so far from the first birth approx 12 days ago) Think I'll go with maybe 8 danios instead of the rasboras.... Can hardly wait!

I wouldn't add the Zebra Danios as they can be nippy and may have a go at your Siamese fighting fish.
Gouramis also shouldn't be added to a tank with the fighting fish as they will more than likely not get on.
