now the same fish that I serperated into the hospital tank has some stingy while poo that comes out in a curly shape like a pigs tail. what on earth is that? and could all my other fish have it even if they do not have stringy white poo?

oh an my fil came by to fix something and left the one power breaker off to the living room for several hours....I switched it back on then realised that all my filter meadia had gone compleatly dry...must have been over those several hours, I could cry, we had just gotten cycled after my stupidity of doing a fish in cycle because I was new at this. the temp stayed ok and every body looks fine, but the media and all its good bacteria is most likely dead dead dead.

I am going to a lfs to see if I can snag some mature media from them, not a chain store though, a private store, so hopefully their tanks will look clean and healthy and I can get that from them.

Have you tested your water in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, to see how much benefical bacteria you have lost.
So the white poo does it look like worms or just waste from the fish.
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, internal parasites, to bacterial infecion.
Does the fish look very thin or bloated.
What do you feed your fish.

look like white poo, no redness around the bum, no wormys sticking out, fish does not look thin or bloated, and he goes poo at least once a day, and they eat tetraflakes, and tetrachips which have algie and protiens and fiber in them. so no actual live or frozen food.

so yea Id say some of my filter bacteria died off, cause I had the A and NI at zero for a while. I am still doing a 10-20 percent water change every day now till levels go back to zero

Gone into a mini cycle by the looks of it.
Need frozen foods and veg in there diet, to many dried foods lead to constipation.
Frozen daphnia good as it helps the fish digest it's food.,
Cook some frozen peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.

Try the peas and if that dosn't clear it up get back to the board.
Good luck.

well the sick fish pecked at the single pea I gave him and ate a good bit then ingored the rest.

the girls is the main tank were another matter, I gave them 4 peas and they ate and ate and fought over every tiny bit, and now all but the lowlest fish look hugely massively fat....I didnt make them sick did I????

Not likely... fish love peas. Mine do anyway. I have platies and a bristlenose in the tank and the peas are mainly for the bristlenose - if I want him to get any I have to tuck peas under the driftwood where the platies can't get them!
What sort of filter was it? Some cycle bacteria do live in the gravel, even if your filter's not an undergravel. If I were you I'd stop vacuuming the gravel until the cycle is reestablished.

actualy have never vacumed the gravel for that reason, I just sphinon water out with an air line tube and then the same way back in.

sick male guppy is acting better...enough better that I wonder when I should put him back in the big tank.

big tank is def goign threw a cycle now :( but everyone but the lowest fish on the totum pole looks great, lowest fish barely got any peas last night and today is swimmign around with clamped fins......no other symptions just clamped fins.

water levels last night

Water change.
Once tanks cycled you need to vac the gravel or sand, you can get bad bacteria growing in places in tanks if you don't give in a good hoover.

Welcome to fish keeping.

dude, fish r harder to keep then 2 horses and a batch of kids

ok just ran and checked everybody.....finaly looks happy...eating...swimming....so how long should I wait to transation him back......just to make sure hes ok and all??

I had a pony and fish are far harder to keep.
My children are grown up now.
Takes alot of learning.

hehehehe that is great, now I can show this to my husband....who dosnt understand either the horses or the fish....but yea guess who does the care for both.
