New, but cycled tank. Plenty of plants and cover. 5 male guppies introduced last week. Readings zero, ph 7, temp 75 degrees.

Have been away for 2 nights and a day. Left one of those holiday sticks for fish- which they've been picking at. One now has a split in its tail and there seems to be quite a bit of bullying going on- he's chasing others, and one's chasing him, and another two are having a go at the rest. What's going on? Upset routine? Too many males?

-_-

How many gallons is the tank? Have you tested the tank recently for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? Does the tank have much decor/planting/hiding places?

males do fight with each other and may sometimes nip each others fins, you can either add more males or keep 1 male i found.

:good:

Thanks for advice. How will more males help? Not keen on getting rid of 4- just got them- and do not want another tank just yet. Would adding different fish eg. tetras to the tank change the dynamics?

125 gallons. As mentioned above readings are zero for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Well planted out with wood and stones too.

it will spread their aggression out more. and 125g is big for 5 guppies lol. no, adding other fish won't really affect their behaviour unless you add 15 female guppies.

No to the 15 females!! Am stocking the tank gradually, that's why it seems big for 5 guppies. Was advised on a previous forum to wait 3-4 weeks before adding the next 'set'.

lol ! you planned what your getting for the tank and did you cycle it?

:good:

Tank is cycled. 125gallons.

5 guppies (have them)
4 pentazona barbs (like the look of them, but my lfs do not stock them)
2 red honey gouramis
3 trilineatus corys
3 otocinclus (not keen on bristlenose catfish. Sorry to bc fans). Read that these are hard to keep though.
Plus 1 or 2 small don't knows...

Any advice on order to introcduce them, or time scale? Have now been advised anything from 4-6 weeks in between...
:D

btw i would up the number of barbs, otos and cories +maybe with the gourami's have 1 male and 2 females but i don't know what sex your having on them?

you should leave it about 3-4 weeks i would say.

:good:

You sure you dont mean 125ltrs not 125g as you stocking list seems a bit on the small size for a massive tank also all the fish in the list are smallish aswell.

Oops. Litres not gallons! That would make your suggestions harder to follow!
