temp=88F
size=10gal
occupants= Sunset Platy, and silver mickey platy
Treatment= Melafix and ich treatment, aquarium salt, and 10% water change every other day. 50% water change yesterday per directions on Ich solution.

Ok it has been about 5 days now with the heat up, so I am slowly lowering it now. Noticed yesterday that the intake spout for the filter was clogged up so I cleaned that out, also rinsed filter in tank water. not sure what is going on with the sunset platy. His white spots have disappeared but he is still just laying on the bottom. He seems to feel better sometimes and I see him swimming around, but then he just lays there other times. Not sure what to do :( The other one has never showed a symptom, though he has been hiding in the castle yesterday. I freaked cause I couldn't find him all day but found him in the castle when I was doing the water change. What is going on? Am I doing the correct thing for treatment? When will I see him feeling better? THX

Why is your temperature so high? Normally, for white spot treatment, 30°C (86°F) is the highest temperature used. Lower it slowly to 22°C (72°F). Temperatures over 30°C can cause long term harm to many species of fish.

Once you lower the salinity and the temperature, they should both start acting better. You do heat up the new water before adding it to the aquarium?

Yes I heated up the new water before adding it to the tank. I will continue to lower the temp to the tank. thx

I just read the temp and it said 84, so I either misread it or the temp has dropped since I posted.

:good: Let us know if there is any improvement tomorrow.. I think 1-2°C per day is a good rate to lower the temperature at.

No improvement this morning. He was laying there when I checked on him. When I turned the light on he did perk up a little. I put some melafix in and now he seems to be a little better he is swimming around. But as soon as he rests he drops like a stone onto the gravel. Its almost as if he uses his energy to swim and then just runs out a rests on the gravel. At this point he has been ill for about 2 weeks and I have no idea what is going to happen to him.

Melafix has never done anything for my fish (although some people swear by it!), just another few things to check.. do you dechlorinate water? Can you make a video of the fish, or take some photos? What do you feed and how often? How is the temperature now?

No I haven't declorinated my water. But I have had the tank for about a year now with no issues until now. What happened was I made a mistake and replaced the filter without preparing it first. SO I just put a fresh filter in :( Stupid on my part, learned my lesson because the tank started cycling over again, lost a swordtail and a snail (Snail got into the salt container). The temp is now at 80F, I feed them a pinch each morning of tetramix. Working on a picture.. but he looks fine, just laying on the gravel Couldn't get a clear photo (is there a secret?) so I took a video.

that is him at rest

Chlorine: toxic to fish, dissipates in 24 hours or less. That is to say, for water changes of under 15% every week, it will not harm a fish nor filter. If you do larger water changes, or more often, it will poison your fish and kill the filter bacteria.

Chloramine: toxic to fish, dissipates in 1 week or more. That is to say, for water changes of under 10% every week, it will not harm a fish nor filter. If you do larger water changes, or more often, it will poison your fish and kill the filter bacteria.

Heavy metals: can bio-accumulate, will harm fish long term.

So stop doing water changes until you buy a dechlorinator.. this is not saying "wait until the problem goes away", this is be saying "go buy a dechlorinator". Even if you don't "need" to use it ever time, you MUST have it for emergencies.
