Well, the tanks been running for 2-3 weeks now and im still having a few problems. I have filled the tank with fast growers and bought 6 tuger shrimp to help against the algae. But at the moment i have no CO2 going in there because my cylinder is being refilled, so i have dropped the lighting down to about 1.7WPG untill i get the co2 refilled. The problem with this is that it gives the algae a good chance to take control! What does everyone think i should do? Should i keep dosing EI without the CO2? Or will it just feed the algae?

Thanks

IMO EI isnt needed as without the CO2 and lower lighting the plants wont utilize thus you may be feeding the problem. Also, maybe decrease the lighting period to 8hrs or so.

Ok then, il be doing a 50% water change on sun, so that should help! Its so hard to remove the algae, its quite easy to brush it out from the hairgrass but not from the stem plants! Any tips?

For a few days I would keep up with the EI, its all about creating stability, if you stop the EI, the levels will go all over the place, and that'll be a trigger to the algae to germinate.

Also.....

GET A SECOND CYLINDER!!!!!!!!!!

Even if its 500g JBL cylinder, running out of CO2 on a high light tank, is the worst possible scenario. Hope that doesn't sound to harsh ;)

Ok then, maybe il dose 1/2 EI? And thanks for that tip, my dad works in the gas business, shouldnt be too hard to get a new cylinder! (thats how i get free refills!)

I did a water change today and dosed ferts. But the algae is near impossible to clear! The only way to do it is to pull out all the hairgrass, clean it and then clean the substrate. But im worried this will effect their growth, is it worth trying an anti-algae thing?
