just been home to check my water as i was out all night and my ammonia was 2.0 and nitrite simular i just can understand why i keep getting these spikes im using a gravel vac and doing at least 1 WC a day

ive not got a problem with doing daily waterchanges but these spikes are a pain in the ass im not heavily stocked and they have all been added gradually

is this normal because i dont think it is :S

for a fish-in cycle you are actually relatively heavily stocked i'm afraid and more fish = more waste = more spikes = more waterchanges.

fish-in cycling is an absolute PITA I'm afraid you just have to keep going with the water changes, try increasing the volume of them to 70% every day and see if that controls things a bit better.

i was cycling with 3 danios and 1 cory but as i thought it was cycled i added the gourmai and another cory thats was last weekend then this weekend i added the rainbow shark so it probally was cycled but i must of pushed the filter over the edge

ill do a big WC when i get back from work

yeah the shark was probably a step too big and too quickly.

i'm not that up on my sharks but i think he may be too big for the tank anyway, anyone else comment?

remember ammonia and nitrite should be kept below 0.25ppm so do as many water changes as you can tonight to get it down in that region then larger changes for a few days should keep it under control.

Your right it will get too big but i really wanted one its the one i HAD to have in my tank and i will get a bigger tank anyway

how long do fish normally or genrally take to get to full size

I'm sorry but 'I know the tank is too small but I wanted one' is not really good enough! Do the needs of the animals life not come before your what you want, if you know your getting a bigger tank then you should have waited until you had it before adding the fish.

The shark will likely be very agressive and territorial in a small tank, the cories will likely bear the brunt of the agression. it's really not fair on the animals to do this you know.

when do you think you can get a bigger tank?

growth rate can be really rather quick, what size is the shark now.
