Fish Fanatic
I've still not decided whether to go down the planted line or not...however, I've just been out and purchased the following in preperation for my tank when it arrives next week:
1 x 7kg Bag of Red Florite
1 x 7kg Bag of Brown Florite
1 x 25kg bag of Silver sand
I plan to cover the base of the tank with 1 layer of Brown Florite and 1 layer of red florite which should total to about 1 inch according to the packet. Then I've going to put 1/2 inch to 1 inch of silver sand on top. I may graduate it so that it is shallower at the front as I don't like deep substrate at the front of a tank. My tank is 101cm x 50cm x 62cm...around 55 US Gallon, Will my idea work?? If I do decide to go for plants, will this kind of substrate be good?? If I decide not too...will this substrate still be OK?
Another Idea is that I may put a step in the layout using some stones. So that I can put the Florite/Sand mix at the rear of the tank (say 50% of the depth) and then just put a graduated slope of silver sand to the from of the tank...would this work?
