hey all

I have 2 GBR's and 2 gold rams

i got them all pretty small and now i think i have ALL males!!

1 of the GBR's,who i must say is the most cocky fish ive ever seen, chases the other GBR everywhere, the other GBR is very timid and stays out of the way.

Now this is where it gets interesting,1 of the golds, which is very small, chases the Dominent GBR,but not the timid 1

while all this is happening the other gold is totaly oblivious, and just ambles around.

i have been offered a female GBR,so that would mean removing one of the others, which 1?

also finding a female gold is rather tricky.no luck nowhere

Have you moved them to the larger tank yet Mark? If not, then you may find once in larger surroundings the bullying will lessen. I would try to find one or two females, add them and if any pair up, then remove the odd one. But in the big tank with enough caves, plants etc you should find they will settle better.

so are you saying adding 2 more definate female gbr's may help?

i havent moved them into the large tank yet,as im waiting for my substrate to turn up!!

im finding it much harder to find females gold's, no lfs near me has males or females

It may help, on the other hand.......

I think the dominant GBR is just marking his territory, hence chasing the other constantly, same with the gold chasing the dominant GBR, and once in the larger tank it will put them all back on an even footing, giving them more room to establish themselves. You will always find one more dominant than the other, its generally just chasing, the funny thing is, if the chased ram was to turn and chase back, the dominant one would more likely stop, its because he can get away with it, that he does it.

what i was thinking was, when am ready to swap the tank around, get 2 females of each and put them all in there new home all together!!

this would mean though i had 4 gold and 4 GBR's in there,is this pushing it abit?

also im not 99% sure they are all male,i just presume they are!!

if i put piccys of all 4 on here,do you think you could give a rough idea what they are?

Yep put piccies up, Im sure someone will be able to sex them for you.

I dont think 8 in a 400L tank is too many personally.

they have 25 or so blue balloons in on the next order apparently.

they have had my name regarding the gold rams for a while, and orange lasers, but they never seem to pull though for me :-(

they also told me i COULDNT order a pair (female and male) but they have let you? odd!!
