Hi I would like to request a sticky on Bogwood/Driftwood ETC. Partly so i can gain some knowledge and also so others can learn from our mistakes/knowledge.

I guess there needs to be some general topic followed by individual types and there issues.

Also how to solve the issues and prep work for them.

I.E if you have pickup BW/DW from the local lake how to prep it for the tank. Also buying from the LFS remebering that soaking in hot water will remove the Tannins before you put in the tank.

Finally (I need some ideas too) What to do/expect when it FLOATS!!! ways to help it sink. What you can do to sidestep getting it to sink.

Best things to bolt/stick to it.

Is drilling slate to the bottom the best solution. (Mine is now VERY wet) Silcone is now not an option. types of bolts/screws that are safe to use. Other heavy items that can be attached.

Thanks.

Maybe this should be a thread used to gain the info needed to build a sticky and save some time colating the data. I would be happy to write it up if the details are provided.

there is a pinned topic in the hardware section
click the wood link in my sig

Just out of curiousity why would a pinned thread on wood be in the hardware section? I would have never thought to look there. To me hardware is filter, heater, and tanks but not wood.

Also its kinda a beginner issue. its sort of the first few things a beginner needs to know or they end up with brown water or floating wood and no idea why.

PS. Still need some ideas on holding this thing down without using slate as i can't find a bit small enough. also is there a type of screw to use or any? (From a contamination reason)

I've never figured that one out myself, but that is where the staff put it.

I've had one piece of wood tat would not stay sunken, I placed a rock ontop of it and 3 weeks later the
wood stayed sunken without the rock.

as for screws brass would be the best as they are non-ferric
