Before the weekend we noticed that Strudel had a few white spots just on his fins. We have been treating with Parazoryne Parasitical treatment and the last 2 days we've done a 25% water change each day and the gravel has been hoovered.

He is in a 55litre tank with some cory's and 3 ottos.

The waters stats are:

Ammonia = 0
NitrIte = 0
NitrAte = 20 due to perhaps too much live food

Temp = 25c

We are keeping the lighting to a minimum at the moment.

The problem we have now is that over the last 2 days Strudel's fins are starting to stick together. Can anyone give advice on what else we can do and does this sound like Costia?

Thanks

Costia
Seems that it is rare to find in tropical fish so not sure if that's what is wrong.
Have you got a picture?
I know when one of my boys had finrot, the tail grew back fused together. He still functioned normally but his tail wasn't as pretty as it once was. :/

Here are some pics. Not the best as I took them quickly.

The spots are on his anal and caudal and this also shows his ventril stuck or twisted.

This one shows the tip of his dorsal stuck together

Costia is a greyish white film covering the fish body and eyes.

too much live food isnt good for bettas, 100% live foods should only be used for conditioning and abput 2 times a week combined with whatever you use, the high nitrates are prob causing this, i dont think it costia as its an obvious looking disease and has quite a quick onset time
what is he like as in motions, is he laying on the bottom a lot? at the surface? is he eating at the moment?

Another pic

He is spending more time lying about and also at the top so not as active as he was. He is eating fine (Hikari Bio Gold) and when he swims he sometimes speeds up and flicks himself.

thats whitespot (ich) it always hit the fins first on bettas

Thanks Daz. So we are doing right to treat him with Parazoryne and water changes etc.

thats whitespot (ich) it always hit the fins first on bettas, treat with protozin or simular, if using protozin make sure you check the back of the bottle as it cant be used within 4 days of some meds, im a little tired so not too knowledgable tonight :lol: oh and raise the temp by 2 degress, not any higher though as you have the ottos in there

Cheers.....we did turn the temp up just abit cos of the ottos and corys we didn't want to do it too high. Thanks for your help.
