I mentioned stem plants and forgot where I posted. So,just to be clear,I like stem plants but my Rainbows seem to favor eating them and thus I'm sort of cheated on growing more color. With enough light you can grow colorful stem plants in non Co2 aquariums. Just add iron and potassium galore. But if you want to get out of that constant pruning some stem plants require or as in Water Wisteria are plants that need almost the whole tank to do well. As I remember it the plant hated my trying to dwarf it by losing vigor with each cutting. The Crypts and the aquatic ferns and swords offer by comparison lots of interest and not much else to do but toss in additives.
As of right now I've found only two plants with color that Rainbows wont eat. Tiger Lotus and the Alternanthera. All others were fish food. I miss the super red Ludwigia..it got off to a fast start and deep red then the fish decided to eat it.
